Starting out as a singer, songwriter and guitarist for Sydney band The Welcome Mat, Wayne also worked at Fairlight (developers of the Fairlight CMI) before becoming an engineer and producer. Originally working around the Australian power pop scene with bands such as The Flanders, Webster and Jericho City, Connolly began to work on more high profile bands such as You Am I, Silverchair, Youth Group and The Vines.  Wayne won 2007 Aria awards for Producer of the Year and Engineer of the Year, for his work on Josh Pyke's album Memories & Dust.
