The Medics sign with Alberts
Posted on 31 Jan 2012
Continuing on from 2011 with new songwriters Harmony James, San Cisco, Roscoe James Irwin, Cosmo Jarvis and David Guetta joining the independent music company, Alberts are pleased to announce they will be representing the rights of Brisbane band The Medic’s.
While originally a five piece, the core of the band has always been cousins Kahl Wallace and Jhindu Lawrie alongside their friends Andrew Thomson and Charles Thomas. The band soon found themselves playing any show they could find and quickly made an impression on the nascent Cairns music scene. There were house parties, small local venues, and even the occasional trip to other regional cities like Townsville.
The Medics are a band constantly on the move from day one – both literally and creatively. Their first recording session turned out an EP that was soon overhauled by a seemingly endless fountain of new songs as the band began finding their sound, and flexing their newfound creative confidence.
Having convened in the home studio of respected engineer Mark Myers (The Middle East) the band soon took the wraps off their first official release – 2010’s This Boat We Call Love EP. Featuring their current track ‘Joseph’ and ‘Her Song’, the EP is a stunning record in its own right but, perhaps more importantly, provides a clear hint for what is to come for the band. The EP also provided the band with the fuel they needed to launch a full scale touring assault and since its release they’ve hit the road across the country. They’ve played alongside The Grates, Gypsy and the Cat, The Jezabels, The Panics, Faker, The Boat People, Amity Affliction while also turning in highlight sets at the Dreaming, Woodford, Peats Ridge, One Movement, St Kilda, Groovin’ the Moo festivals, Gold Coast Big Day Out and the upcoming Brisbane Laneway Festival.
Just in their early 20s – and now permanently located in Brisbane – The Medics will be releasing their debut album in 2012.
