Nordoff Robbins Music Therapy are thrilled to announce that the 2012 Art of Music charity dinner and auction held at the beginning of this month at the Art Gallery of New South Wales raised a NET figure of $270,000, breaking all previous records. The night included performances by Megan Washington and Mental as Anything with Neil Finn on drums.
Art of Music is a unique event combining both visual arts and music. Ten prominent contemporary visual artists come together to create an original exhibition. Each artist chooses an iconic song to inspire an artwork which is then auctioned during a gala dinner in the Grand Court of the Art Gallery of New South Wales. When Nicholas Harding first heard Megan Washington's funereal Underground, the song sounded joyful to his ears. ''I get the darker side, but it made death sound not that bad,'' the artist said. The painting sold for $27,000 on the night.

Megan Washington recently visited Nordoff Robbins at Kingswood. "Using music as therapy was really important in my younger life and I find what Nordoff-Robbins does to be extraordinary."
