Felix Riebl (The Cat Empire) joins Alberts
Posted on 29 Apr 2013
We’re thrilled to announce that published works of songwriter, vocalist and musician Felix Riebl will be represented by independently-owned Alberts, for the world. (excluding back catalogue for APRA territories till 2016)
Instantly recognised for his vocals and percussions with The Cat Empire, Felix is one of the founding members of the genre-busting group and main songwriter alongside Harry James Angus (represented by Alberts outside of APRA territories) and Ollie McGill.
Felix dropped into Alberts last week to visit staff in Neutral Bay, days before announcing The Cat Empire’s biggest world tour to date whereby the band will play close to 70 shows covering the USA, Canada, South America, Europe and Australia. The ‘Steal The Light’ world tour is in celebration of the band’s 5th studio album of the same name, which will be released worldwide May 17th , through the band’s own independent label Two Shoes Records.
“Brighter Than Gold,” the first single released from the album, was written by Felix and band mate Harry James Angus and has proven to be a crowd favourite as recently seen from the reaction at the St. Kilda Festival. Locally, the energetic song continues to be played at high rotation on Triple J, while internationally it has achieved “Mega Hit” status on 3FM in the Netherlands (Top 20 on Dutch iTunes) and Studio Brussel’s “Hot Shot” track in Belgium with heat building on the song at German radio.
Felix’s achievements with The Cat Empire extends to over a decade of writing and performing together, multiple recorded and live albums released, platinum record sales, music industry awards, performing headline shows to record crowd numbers, plus local and international festival appearances.
Felix’s music career also includes his much revered solo work. In 2011, Felix released his debut solo album, Into The Rain. With free flowing, dark, intricate storytelling, a change of pace to his works with his collective group, Felix’s debut was a collection of songs, written over piano, about creating space and inviting his audience into this world. Produced by fellow Alberts writer and arranger Roscoe James Irwin, Felix invited members of The Bamboos and TCE to perform.
Outside of touring and album releases, Felix has composed music for award winning short film Two Men as well as The Commonwealth Games, Australia Day Ceremonies, The Dream Festival and White Night Festival in Melbourne.
