AMP Alive expands to include newly announced shortlisted artist Urthboy

Tim Levinson (aka Urthboy) is the newest addition to the list of shortlisted acts for The 8th Australian Music Prize and the Amp Alive bill which will be held in Melbourne, February 1st.
Hosted by two prominent Australian artists in their own right, Clare Bowditch and Kevin Mitchell, Amp Alive will showcase some of Australia’s finest. It is also where the remaining shortlisted acts will be announced.
Handpicked from a final list of 71 official entrants, not to mention a field of more than 300 Australian artist album releases, Sydney-based MC Urthboy, was welcomed to The Coopers AMP shortlist for his fourth solo album Smokey's Haunt (Elefant Traks). Released in October 2012, the album is hailed Urthboy’s finest to date, spanning party nights to politics and everything in between. With collaboration from the likes of Solo (Horrorshow), Alex Burnett (Sparkadia) and Daniel Merriweather, thealbum’s long line of triumphs include a #14 ARIA Album Chart debut, a nomination for triple j’s Album of the Year J Award and four-star reviews from The Australian, Rolling Stone and Sydney Morning Herald, among others.
A total of nine Australian artist albums will be recognised in The Coopers Amp Shortlist and celebrated at Amp Alive on February 1st. The winner of The Coopers Amp, and the $30,000 prize money courtesy of principal partner PPCA, will then be crowned in March.
