Today, AC/DC were awarded an ARIA #1 Chart Award for their Music DVD ‘Live At River Plate’ (Alberts/Sony) and Gotye for his single Somebody That I Used to Know featuring Kimbra (Eleven/Universal) and album Making Mirrors (Eleven/Universal).
AC/DC Live At River Plate spent 15 weeks at the top of the ARIA Music DVD Chart and has gone on to sell 4 x Platinum in Australia. The award accepted by Alberts on behalf of the band. This award is a wonderful follow-up to last year’s ARIA award for Best Music DVD. The ARIA #1 Chart Award honours local artists who have achieved a number one single, album or music DVD from August 2010 - 2012.
Media, industry and musicians converged at the Sydney Venue, The Ivy Sunroom, to celebrate the recipients of the ARIA #1 Chart Awards and witnessed some very special live acoustic performances and the launch of the revamped ariacharts.com.au site.
AC/DC Live At River Plate, the definitive live concert DVD documenting AC/DC’s massive Black Ice World Tour debuted as the #1 selling DVD on the national ARIA DVD chart in Australia, and in 16 other countries, including the U.S., U.K., Germany, France, Spain, Argentina, Canada, Ireland, Belgium, Sweden, New Zealand, Austria, Chile, Hungary, Finland and Italy.
AC/DC Live At River Plate was shot in Buenos Aires in December of 2009 completely in HD using 32 cameras, which captures the rock grandeur and excitement of AC/DC’s incredible live performance. Directed by David Mallet and produced by Rocky Oldham, AC/DC Live At River Plate features 19 AC/DC tracks and is available on DVD, Blu-Ray and a limited collector’s edition with exclusive t-shirt. Additionally the DVD contains a bonus feature titled “The Fan, The Roadie, The Guitar Tech & The Meat,” featuring interviews with AC/DC, their crew and fans among the excitement of the shows and the city of Buenos Aires.
In the period from August 2010 to August 2012, a selection of diverse Australian acts spent 61 weeks in the #1 position across the ARIA singles, album or music DVD charts. This includes chart stalwarts such as Powderfinger, Guy Sebastian, The Wiggles, AC/DC, Hilltop Hoods and Missy Higgins, alongside newer names such as Gotye, Reece Mastin, Karise Eden, The Temper Trap, Drapht and Bliss N Eso.
Over this same period, 84 singles from Australian artists were awarded gold, platinum or multi-platinum status, whilst 73 individual Australian albums were accredited.
