Harry James Angus
J.ALBERT & SON
From the second-greatest musical city in the world, Melbourne, comes one of the most important voices of his generation, Harry James Angus.
Harry's bands include the internationally touring multi-platinum ARIA award winning The Cat Empire, ARIA nominated duo Jackson Jackson and The (now legendary) Conglomerate, plus the much loved The Harry James Angus Band. His occasional rare solo performances enhance his already wide ranging and unpredictable musical explorations and songwriting.
For musician and composer Harry James Angus, music has always been a constant – from his early years as a member of the National Boys’ Choir and forced piano practice as a child, to the day he picked up a trumpet as a young schoolboy (because all of the saxophones were taken) and entered the intoxicating world of jazz. After immersing himself in performing in various school jazz troupes and sneaking into Melbourne’s best live venues, the era of playing in a café attached to a furniture store for $70-and-free-focaccias in his late teens was swiftly exchanged for rapid success in 2001. It was that year, over ten years ago that Harry joined forces with five other jazz mates to create the highly acclaimed sensation - The Cat Empire.
Over the years, Harry has come to occupy a unique position in the Australian musical landscape. Alongside The Cat Empire, Jackson Jackson, Harry James Angus Band and the deeply thoughtful storytelling embedded in his solo material. is the melting pot of Harry's body of work. At times varied and obscure, all the music that he has been involved in throughout this past decade has a common thread running through it - a striving for total originality, and a desire to contribute to the ever evolving conversation that is music.
